WASA tightens noose around water defaulters

Sewage system, water connection cuts at hotels, bakeries, service stations help water body recover Rs80 million

RAWALPINDI:

Following a crackdown by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on water supply defaulters, sewage systems and water connections were cut off from hotels, bakeries, bridges, and service stations and Rs80 million were collected from them.

Teams of WASA across the city started crackdowns on defaulters under the supervision of Senior Special Magistrate WASA. Under the zero-tolerance policy of MD WASA, those who don't pay their dues won't have their water connections serviced any longer.

As per sources, WASA which continues to provide water to the public at a subsidised cost despite experiencing financial loss has implemented a zero-tolerance policy to secure the collection of millions of rupees in arrears in addition to the hundred per cent recovery of current billing.

According to MD WASA Muhammad Tanveer, those who do not pay their electricity bills on time or postpone paying their arrears would have their access to the water supply and sewerage network cut off. Teams have been formed in this respect, under the supervision of Senior Special Magistrate WASA.
