Lawyers stage protest against police HQ bombing

Demand inquiry into the attack in high security zone

PESHAWAR:

A protest rally was held against the police lines attack by lawyers in Peshawar on Friday.

The call for the rally had been given by Peshawar District Bar Association and was led by President District Bar Association Ali Zaman and others.

It started from Peshawar High Court (PHC) and ended near Assembaly Chow.

The participants chanted slogans against terrorist and carried banners and placards.

Addressing the rally, Ali Zaman said that the suicide attack in a mosque inside the police lines was a cowardly act, saying that the K-P police has been on the forefront of war on terror and its sacrifices were countless.

They demanded an impartial inquiry into the attack, saying that such deadly attacks inside the red zone is a big question mark on the security of vital installation.

Lawyers boycott court proceedings

Lawyers on Friday also observed a complete boycott of court proceedings in order to record their protest against the police lines terrorists attack.

The boycott created problems for the petitioners. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council’s vice chairman Zar Badshah and other leaders strongly condemned the attack at police and said that the call for boycott had been given to show solidarity with the victims of the attack.

He paid rich tributes to those policemen who lost their lives in the attack and said that due to the sacrifices of police force there was peace in the province.

They said that the sacrifices rendered by police would be fruitful soon and normalcy would come back to the province and Peshawar.

They demanded of the government to provide K-P police with more funds and equipment in order to increase it capacity against highly armed terrorists.

Security beefed up

Peshawar High Court has ordered strict security measures due to the recent law and order situation.

Chief justice has ordered body search of all people including lawyers at entry points and no one would be allowed to carry knives, or arms inside the PHC building. A formal notification has been issued by registrar PHC, directing the body search of all entering PHC and there will be no exception in this regard.
