LODHRAN:

A woman and her son were shot dead by two men allegedly to punish them because the woman’s nephew had reportedly eloped with one of the girls of the suspects’ family.

The deceased women’s daughter and granddaughter also sustained gunshot wounds during the indiscriminate firing by the suspects. The injured were taken to a hospital.

The horrific incident happened in the area of Raja Pur in the jurisdiction of the Saddar Police Station.

Accused Jaffer Shah and his son Waseem Shah killed Yaseen in a graveyard and his mother Najma in her house. The women who sustained injuries were identified as Sakina and Almeen.

The suspects are at large.

The DSP and the SHO of Saddar Police Station had the bodies of Yaseen and Najma shifted to a hospital for the postmortem.

At night, DPO Kashif Aslam also met the relatives of the deceased who briefed the official about the incident. The DPO ordered the DSP immediate registration of a case and arrest of the accused. The injured women had been shifted to the BVH Hospital.

Saddar Police Station registered a case against Jaffer Shah and Waseem Shah on the complaint of M Zaman under Sections 302, 324 and 450 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The complainant stated in his application that his sister-in-law's son, Sattar, lived in Lahore where Jafar Shah's daughter, Muskan, also happened to be living.

Zaman said that Sattar and the girl had been seeing each other for some time and decided to get married. Anticipating opposition from the girl’s family, the youth decided to elope a year ago. Jafar Shah tried to get his daughter back through the Panchayat but failed.

The complainant said that he had been at home at 7:30 in the evening when accused Jafar Shah and his son Waseem barged into their house and opened indiscriminate fire.

He said that one of the bullets hit his wife Najma, who died on the spot, while their daughter Sakina and granddaughter also got shot by Waseem Shah.

He said that the suspects later went on a search for his son Yameen and shot him dead. In the month of December last year, a man had killed his sister in Chak Jhumra on suspicion of immoral activities.

Police took possession of the body and started raids to arrest the accused.

The deceased was present in her house in Chak No. 191, RB Mulawani, when her brother, Asif Ali, plunged a knife into her throat.

She died on her way to the hospital. Jhumra police reached the spot and shifted the body to a hospital for postmortem and registered a case under Section 302 of the PPC.
