RAWALPINDI:

After the establishment of the caretaker government, the day-to-day affairs of all the local bodies of Rawalpindi district, including the education, health, social and all 22 departments, have come to a complete standstill.

Due to the caretaker setup, the affairs of officers and employees in all government institutions have also come to a halt. The only work to do in government offices, institutions and departments is limited to marking attendance and receiving and paying salaries and pensions.

Employees of the district council, tehsil council, Metropolitan Corporation, town committee and municipal committee have nothing to do owing to the suspension of development schemes and funds.

Government contractors have been laid off and payment of bills to them has also been stopped.

Sources in the local government department told The Express Tribune that on the government's directives, the district account office has stopped the issuance of cheques for all types of payments except for salary, pension and utility bills.

The work of the employees working in these offices has become limited to marking their attendance and collection of salaries at the month's end.
