MIRANSHAH:

Yet another policeman has been killed in what appears to be a targeted attack in North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Police told The Express Tribune that unidentified terrorists opened fire at Constable Khurshidullah who was on his way to duty in the evening.

“He was gunned down in the jurisdiction of his own village Tappi Khel by unidentified miscreants who managed to escape after committing the crime taking full advantage of the darkness,” said a police spokesperson.

A large number of policemen reached the spot soon after the attack and carried out a door-to-door search operation but there was no sign of the assailants.

The last rites of the slain constable were offered at Governor Cottage in Miranshah with full guard of honour.

Later the body of the martyred cop was sent to his ancestral hometown for burial.

In a press statement, district police officer said that the fight against terrorism will continue till the menace is eliminated.

He added that the sacrifices of the police force will always be remembered.

It may be mentioned here that police has emerged as the primary target of terrorists since the fall of Kabul to Taliban who freed thousands of TTP terrorists from Afghan prisons on the ground that their trial had not been conducted under the Sharia law.

The withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan not only provided TTP with complete leeway and freedom of action but also gave them access to latest military gadgets such as state-of-the-art military grade night vision equipment, enabling them to stage nighttime attacks with deadly precision.
