Transporters demand subsidy on fuel

Denounce increase in diesel, petrol prices

KARACHI:

Goods transporters have demanded subsidy of Rs100 per liter to continue business at current cartage charges.

Supreme Council of All Pakistan Transporters meeting was held at Hawke's Bay Truck Stand. Chairman along with the General Secretary Muhammad Hanif Khan Marwat, Haji Abdul Rauf Khan Niazi, Murad Khan Durrani, Dilawar Khan Niazi, Akhtar Saeed Khan and others expressed their views in the meeting.

While presiding over the meeting, Chairman Supreme Council Captain (Rtd) Asif Mahmood said that the sudden increase of Rs35 in the prices of petroleum products is tantamount to the economic killing of transporters.

Bringing vehicles on the roads in these conditions is tantamount to suicide. Now we transporters have no other option but to park the vehicles. “We appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and all authorities concerned to give a subsidy of at least Rs100 per liter to the transporters. “

He further demanded that subsidy should be provided by reducing duty on import of spare parts, tires and abolishing toll tax so that we transporters can continue their business and millions of people can be protected from job loss.

Sindh Goods Truck Trawler Owners Association General Secretary Muhammad Azam Butt expressed his strong condemnation on the increase in the prices of petroleum products. Due to the rising prices of petroleum products, the business of goods transporters has been ruined. We are already inflation-hitted people, a petroleum bomb has been dropped on us from above which will force us to close down the business.”

He further added that increasing the petroleum products prices will also increase the prices of daily necessities.
