Anti-Kite-Flying Volunteers Association and other stakeholders Saturday vowed to discourage the controversial sport of kite-flying and spread awareness about its potential hazards.
The Anti-Kite Flying Volunteers Association through a statement announced that their volunteers would launch an educational campaign in schools, colleges, universities, offices and public places to achieve their goal of a ‘kite-free Pakistan’.
“Our aim is to discourage the youth from kite-flying and divert their attention toward healthier activities,” read the statement.
Association members including Yasir Farooq Usman, Babar Aurangzeb Chaudhry, Usman Feroz, Inam ul Haq and others urged stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace.
“Every year, precious human lives are lost while bird fowl and electrical infrastructures are affected by the harms of this sport,” they said.
On the other hand, the police actively crack down on the kite-selling mafia on a large scale and hundreds of young kite flyers also come under the grip of the law and get punished.
Despite all the losses, the game that has been going on in society for a long time has not been rooted out because its hazards have not been truly understood by the public.
“Hence, there is a dire need for the police, as well as the public, to end this controversial sport,” the members said.
The volunteers further stated that awareness campaigns in this regard are very important.
They urged the citizens to play their role in rooting out the game from society through active participation in the drive.
