Police claimed to have arrested 34 criminals on Saturday, besides recovering drugs and illegal weapons from their possession during a crackdown launched across the district.
In line with orders from City Police Officer (CPO) Shakir Hussain Dawar, the police launched a crackdown and arrested four notorious proclaimed offenders wanted by police in different cases of robbery and other crimes. Police also apprehended four court absconders.
Meanwhile, eight suspected drug peddlers were arrested with 18 litres of liquor, two bottles of imported wine, 1.24 kgs of hashish and 21 grams of ice, while two illegal weapon holders were arrested with two pistols and ammunition, police sources added.
Police also apprehended five alleged gamblers and seized stake money and gambling material from them, while nine drivers were held for speeding, one person was arrested for illegally refilling LPG and a professional beggar was also arrested.
Separate cases have been registered against the suspects with the relevant police stations, police sources said.
