Thieves blow up pylon to steal brass, copper used in ‘grounding’
Thieves blew up a power pylon to steal brass plates, copper wire and metal in the desert area of Khanot in Jamshoro district, police said.
Due to the collapse of the tower, the power supply from the high transmission line of 500KV from Jamshoro grid station to Dadu and Mitari was suspended. On receiving the information, police and National Transmission and Dispatch Company officials reached the spot.
The falling tower snapped high transmission lines disrupting power supply to Dadu and Matiari from Jamshoro, NTDC Engineer Zulfiqar Solangi said.
He said that the suspects planted explosives and brought down the tower to dig out brass and copper plates put in the base for earthing.
While falling, the tower caused the wires of other towers to snap too. Eng Solangi said repair work has started.
Later in the evening, Khanot DSP Agha Slahuddin told the media that two suspects Latif Pathan and Bashir Magnahar have been arrested. Police have recovered the stolen equipment and shifted the suspects to police station, DSP Salahuddin said.
