‘Fraudster’ held over counterfeit currency

Man accused of posing as intelligence officer, buying fuel with fake banknotes

MUZAFFARGARH:

A man impersonating an intelligence officer was arrested over allegedly using counterfeit banknotes to buy fuel.

According to police sources, the accused Usama Khalid gave two counterfeit Rs50,000 banknotes to the salesman after filling his luxury car with fuel.

The salesman recognized the attempted swindle, while the suspect denied offering the counterfeit notes, triggering a verbal altercation between the duo.

In the meantime, the pump owner Saadat Awan called the police, who reached promptly reached the spot and arrested the suspected fraudster.

Police further claimed to have recovered four fake number plates from the accused’s possession. Following the arrest, some influential political figures reportedly contacted police for his release.
