Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) South Punjab, Capt (retd) Saqib Zafar said increasing the literacy rate and eradicating poverty in the region was the top priority of the government.
He said that work was underway on hundreds of development projects to raise the living standard of the people.
South Punjab ACS Saqib Zafar was addressing a group of trainee ASPs at the South Punjab Secretariat on Thursday. School Education Secretary Dr Ehtesham Anwar, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Muhammad Iqbal, P&D Secretary Aftab Pirzada and SSP Umar Riaz were also present on the occasion.
Zafar said South Punjab was an important region of the country and possessed a unique civilization and culture. He added that the aim of establishing the Secretariat was to resolve people’s problems at their doorsteps and that it achieved many milestones throughout its time.
The ACS said service delivery greatly improved at DHQs, THQs and BHUs in remote areas due to monitoring by the Secretariat.
Zafar added that the School Olympic Games and the establishment of the first transgender school were also proud initiatives.
