Threat alert issued for twin cities
Intelligence agencies have warned of possible terrorist attacks in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in wake of a series of terror incidents in various parts of the country.
Police and other security institutions have been asked to remain alert and ensure strict security arrangements at sensitive installations, police offices as well as important government offices.
The threat alert has been issued after the reports of the presence of terrorist elements in Rawalpindi and Islamabad belonging to a banned organisation and its plan to carry out its saboteur activities and chaos in the twin cities.
According to the sources, the threat alert has been sent to Regional Police Officers and DPOs of all districts of the division, with directions to keep vigilant on Mall Road, Lal Kurti, Dhamiyal Road, Shahkak Bridge, Mohra Chhapar Chakri Road, Chah Sultan and Ranyal as well as at important buildings in Rawalpindi.
The personnel manning pickets have been informed about the possibility of being targeted by the Qari Faqir Group, a banned organization.
The threat alert intimated to the police that during the recent investigations, it has been found that the Qari Faqir Group affiliated with a banned organisation is planning terrorism in the twin cities to spread chaos. Therefore, strict measures should be taken by ensuring foolproof security arrangements to prevent such an attempt.
In light of the threat alert, security of important places including sensitive government facilities and police buildings and installations has been increased.
Personnel assigned on duty at pickets and patrolling staff have also been asked to remain alert during snap checking.
Similarly, the use of bulletproof jackets and kits has also been made mandatory for police personnel performing duty at pickets and entry and exit points. A senior police officer said that supervisory officers have also been obliged to check personnel from time to time and brief them on security threats.
