The Punjab government has approved a new dam and a Miyawaki forest for the Rawalpindi district.
According to sources, the dam has been given an accord to address the water woes of the garrison city.
They said the dam will be constructed in the Chauntra suburb of Rawalpindi city while the Miyawaki forest will be grown on 500 acres of land adjacent to the Mujahid dam. Sources also said the project will cost over Rs937 million to the national exchequer.
Besides, the dam will be completed within two and a half years of period while tenders have been issued for its construction.
The construction contract will be awarded after the opening of the tenders on February 1.
This dam will be constructed by Rawalpindi Small Dams Division for which all preparations have been completed, they said.
Sources privy to the development also said funds have also been released to the division concerned already.
On the other hand, land has been acquired for this dam while more than half of the land is government owned.
