RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has notified another tehsil in Rawalpindi, increasing the total number of tehsils in the district to 8 again.

According to official sources, Daulatala town committee has been granted the status of tehsil following Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi’s approval.

They said a grant of Rs1 billion has also been issued on immediate basis to build a headquarter for the nascent tehsil.

The sources also confirmed that a regular gazette notification was also issued to give Daultala the status of a tehsil, which previously was a town committee of Rawalpindi district.

Daultala has a total population of 20,732 while it has only one union council.

On the other hand, the Punjab chief minister handed over the notification for the new tehsil to local lawmakers, MPA Chaudhary Sajid Mehmood and MPA Javed Kausar.

It’s worth noting here that after Murree was given the status of a district, the two tehsils of Murree and Kotli Sattian were stripped off their status, after which Rawalpindi tehsil was divided into 3 tehsils including City tehsil, Saddar tehsil and Cantt tehsil.
