Coachella has revealed its 2023 lineup, featuring Frank Ocean, BLACKPINK, and Bad Bunny as headliners and our very own Ali Sethi performing on day three! The artists' lineup further includes India's Diljit Dosanjh, who will be taking the stage on the second day.
Gorillaz, Björk, Rosalía, Chemical Brothers, Boygenius, Blondie, Pusha T, Charli XCX, and more are also set to perform on the world's biggest stage. The Pasoori hitmaker took to Instagram and shared the news. "Come out, everyone!" Sethi penned in his post.
His announcement met with congratulatory messages from his peers. Aima Baig, Adnan Malik, and Talal Qureshi lauded the famed singer for this incredible feat.
Sethi becomes the second Pakistani artist to take the centre stage at Coachella after Grammy winner, Arooj Aftab, serenaded the crowd last year. Revellers in thong bodysuits, sporting glitter eyeshadow and sheathed in neon partied late into the night Friday as the first Coachella since the pandemic's onset got underway in the California desert.
Coachella 2022 marked the first time the festival ever took a break between years, due to the postponement and eventual cancellation of the planned 2020 event. Afterward, AEG initiated a string of layoffs, furloughs, reduced hours, and salary cuts. Coachella was then rescheduled to April 2021 before being once again canceled in January 2021 due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.
The festival finally returned in April 2022, but not without its share of drama. Less than 10 days before the first weekend of Coachella was scheduled to take place, Kanye West was abruptly off the lineup and, in his place, the Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia stepped up. West was later sued for $7.1 million by the Los Angeles–based production and design firm Phantom Labs, which claimed that he owed them money for work on his cancelled Coachella performance.
Harry Styles debuted at Coachella as a headliner, kicking off the night's premiere set enveloped in a fur coat before stripping to reveal a disco ball of an outfit he donned to dance down the stage runway, thousands of screaming fans clamouring at his feet. Coachella's 2020 edition was scrapped as the coronavirus pandemic came into full force, and two years of chaotic cancellations, rescheduled shows and lineup shakeups ensued.
The annual music festival takes place over two weekends: April 14–16 and April 21– 23 — at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Tickets to Coachella 2023, including three-day General Admission and VIP passes, go on sale Friday, January 13.
