The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to restart construction work on the Lawi Hydropower Project in Chitral district that had been stopped for the past 9 months due to some security and financial issues.
A financial package has also been announced and security issues have been resolved to ensure speedy work on the project. Similarly, the 40.8 MW Koto power project in Lower Dir district has also entered the final stage of completion.
Cheap electricity generated by the project will generate an annual income of more than Rs2 billion for the province and will create new employment opportunities.
Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmad Khan and Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Naeem Khan while making an emergency visit to the project sites of ongoing Lawi HPP, Shishi HPP and Koto HPP in Dir Lower and Chitral districts under the direction of Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, expressed these views.
Both officers examined the various parts of the projects carefully.
On this occasion, Project Director Koto Sultan Roomi and Deputy Director Muqeemuddin updated them on the progress on the project and said that due to security reasons, several workers of Chinese engineering team working on the project had left.
