A man accused of murdering two minors allegedly committed suicide in police lockup.

The SHO of the police station and the head moharrar had been suspended by the RPO, while the district police officer also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Muhammad Khalid, Ilyas Kamboh and Ayesha Bibi had allegedly killed two young children, Muhammad Rashid and Muhammad Umar, a few days ago by throwing them into the Abbasia Canal at the behest of their friends.

The bodies of the children were found floating in the canal at Head Amingarh.

The father of the children, Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony, registered a case against the main accused, Muhammad Khalid, Ayesha Bibi and others at the Saddar Police Station.

The police arrested Muhammad Khalid and Ayesha Bibi and obtained their remand for investigation. More suspects were yet to be arrested when between 9 and 10 o'clock on Thursday night, the police got report of the alleged suicide of Muhammad Khalid.

When the media reached the spot to confirm the incident, the police said that Muhammad Khalid committed suicide by tying his drawstring around his neck and then had himself hung from the shower in the washroom.

The RPO of Bahawalpur took notice of the matter and asked for a report on the incident from the District Police Officer and immediately suspended SHO Muhammad Younis and Head Moharrar Muhammad Imran.

DPO Rahim Yar Khan Akhtar Farooq visited the Saddar Police Station to inquire about the incident.
