The chairman of the one-man commission on minorities' rights and protection, Dr Shoaib Suddle, on Tuesday claimed that 3,500 hectares of land had been taken back from the encroachers.
“The estimated price of the land recovered is Rs23 billion,” Suddle said while addressing a news conference along with Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Habibur Rehman Gillani.
Suddle, who is also the former inspector general of police, added that Rs650 million was recovered through rental payments.
“It is a difficult task, which is being done stepwise,” he said.
The rights and protection commission was formed on the orders of the Supreme Court in the aftermath of the Peshawar church attack to audit the properties of minorities.
The former top cop added that the ETPB and the Federal Investigation Agency were also part of the commission.
The ETPB chairman said that the one-man commission had made it easy to access different stakeholders.
