Eight members of the same family, including four women and two children, died while five others sustained injuries in a road accident on the Indus Highway in Darra Adam Khel on Monday, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.
The accident happened between a van, carrying a family from Peshawar to Sabirabad, Karak, and a truck coming from the opposite direction, near Zor Kale, Dara Adam Khel. The deceased were identified as Sadaf, 30, Nasreen, 50, Wazira, 51, Shamshad Begum, 50, Shad Muhammad, 66, Arman, 13, Nasiha, 8, and Aiza, 6.
Five people, 12-year-old Wajiha, 45-year-old Sajjad, 35-year-old Azmatullah, truck driver Hazrat Deen and conductor Hanif sustained injuries.
The casualties were taken to a local hospital from where the injured were shifted to Peshawar, while the bodies were sent to their ancestral village after legal formalities.
Moving scenes were witnessed when eight bodies reached the Sabirabad village.
A large number of villagers attended the funeral of the victims. Later they were buried in the local cemetery.
Dara Adamkhel police, meanwhile, registered a case and opened an investigation.
