Maid accused of stealing Rs5m cash, 15 tolas of gold from DHA house

Police say cannot jump to conclusions, conducting investigations

A maid was blamed for stealing Rs5 million cash and 15 tolas of gold from her employer's house in the upscale neighbourhood of Defence Housing Authority Phase V.

An automobile dealer, Raheel, filed a complaint at the Darakhshan police station that cash and gold jewellery were missing from his home on Street 24 on Khyban-e-Mujahid Phase V DHA.

He claimed that the maid, Kulsoom Bibi, 50, had committed the theft with the help of her accomplice. On receiving the information about the incident, police reached the spot and called in the crime scene unit and started the investigation of the theft after collecting the evidence. Darakhshan police station SHO Shoaibur Rahman said they were conducting investigations but cannot jump to conclusions.

Quoting the complainant he said Raheel had gone to Islamabad for a week in connection with some work. When Raheel came back, this morning, he found R5 million and about 15 tolas of gold in the closet, and other items were missing, which he reported to the police.

Raheel claimed that he had sold a car and the cash payment was in his house. The SHO said that the Raheel suspected that his maid was allegedly involved in the theft.

The complainant further claimed that the maid and an unidentified man were seen outside the gate of his house.
