ISLAMABAD:

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a cut in the salaries, pensions and benefits of senior judges.

In view of the economic conditions of the country, the request to cut the pension and benefits of the judges of the Supreme Court and others was filed by Advocate Zulfikar Bhatta in the Supreme Court under Article 184(3). The president of the country has been made a party in the plea.

The petition stated that the government is burdening the people instead of cutting the huge salaries, pensions and other benefits, requesting that the higher judiciary and other institutions should be directed to review the huge pensions and other allowances.

It was written that due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country, the prices of food items had gone beyond the reach of the people.

Due to the bad economic conditions, people were forced to commit suicide, the petition said, adding that heavy salaries and benefits should be reviewed to deal with the economic crisis.
