After ‘Pasoori’, Shae Gill’s ‘Sukoon’ is Bollywood’s new favourite

Actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Rohit Saraf have given a nod to the song

It seems like Bollywood is a fan of Shae Gill’s melodious voice. After her Coke Studio debut, Pasoori, made headlines across the border and eventually became a global hit, her latest track, Sukoon, in collaboration with Lahore’s Hassan and Roshaan, is making it to the playlist of Bollywood celebs.

Sukoon is striking a chord with listeners for both its aesthetic music video and peaceful vibes. While some have taken issue with what they believe are subtle hints of queerness in the video, a majority of listeners find the song therapeutic and beautiful. A few have even compared Gill’s voice to the legendary Nazia Hassan’s after listening to the song.

While Sukoon released in October, its music video came out earlier in December– and it was worth the wait. Hassan and Roshan took to Instagram to share the clip and wrote, “When the director heard the song, he said the song gave him a sense of peace coupled with melancholy. Like a goldfish in a fishbowl, zindagi haseen bhi hay, tanha bhi hay [life is also beautiful, life is also lonely). A goldfish in a bowl, perhaps the prettiest, loneliest thing one could visualize.”
