All Sindh Primary Teachers Association (ASPTMA) staged a protested demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club against non-upgradation and tried to march towards the Chief Minister’s House.
Police stopped the protestors by placing barriers. The protesters blocked the road leading from the Arts Council to Press Club which affected the flow of traffic.
Male and female primary teachers from different districts of Sindh participated in the protest. Participating in the protest from across the province the protestors that the teachers recruited during a period from 2001 to 2019 have not been made permanent.
The teachers said they were facing difficulties due to absence of biometric verification facilities at education department offices at district level.
Representatives of protesting teachers said that instead of teaching children, they were left running from poll to post to resolve their issues with the education department.
Primary teachers of Sindh have demanded unconditional upgradation from February 2021. They also demanded that the service structure must be provided immediately, and biometrics must be introduced at the district level.
The teachers said that the salaries of the recently recruited teachers must be paid immediately. The teachers have demanded that government schools must be provided with furniture and other facilities, and the innocent teachers suspended under the guise of journalism should be immediately reinstated and hard area allowance should be given to the teachers of Tharparkar, Umarkot and Kohisastan.
A delegation of teachers held talks with Special Secretary Pervez Ahmed Baloch and Additional Secretary Ghulam Akbar Brahmani. Some demands of the teachers were accepted in the talks. Teachers have been assured to solve biometric issue in four months.
