This is what you call nepotism: Naumaan Ijaz proudly shares photo with star kids, draws ire

The veteran actor posted a picture with Behroze, Shahroz, Zaviyar, Javed and Shehzad

Earlier this month, the New Yorker created a ‘Nepo babies’ edit for Hollywood to highlight the celebrities who made it big through the support and fame of their parents, siblings and relatives. It’s common knowledge that nepotism is prevalent in our local industry too but before anyone else can point it out, veteran actor Naumaan Ijaz posted a picture with his fellow actor and sons to prove the point himself – and that too, with pride.

On Tuesday, the Sang-e-Mah actor took to Instagram to share a picture of his industry friends and their sons from a recent wedding they all attended. Dressed in black shalwar kameez and shiny waistcoats, the picture saw, Ijaz and his son Zaviyar Ejaz, Behroze and Shahroz Sabzwari and Javed and Shehzad Sheikh posing for the camera.

“Mashallah! This is what they call nepotism,” he captioned the post. “Now go on all of you,” he added, referring to how people call the veterans out for push starting their sons’ careers in the showbiz world.

The comment section was full of people commenting on how there’s no need to “gloat” about the lack of talent their sons have compared to them. A user even called the actor out on how their sons get the best scripts easily while a newbie without any source doesn’t even get a chance for a B-grade drama without trying multiple times.

Responding to one such comment, Ijaz shut the trolls up by saying that nepotism happens globally. “Yes dear, it is what it is. This is what has been happening and it will keep happening,” he wrote.

Most people saw his reply as an arrogant one, but not actor Ghana Ali. Coming to Ijaz’s defense on a local news publication’s post on the same matter, she wrote, “He’s not being arrogant, in fact, he himself is against it [nepotism]!” read her comment.

She continued to defend Ijaz by stating that nepotism is just parents looking out for their kids. “But when it comes to your child, you are helpless. You would always want to provide him or her with the best! That’s how all parents are! We can’t blame him.”

Adding that parents, in other spheres of life such as schools and colleges, go to all lengths to ensure their kids get the best of the world, she exclaimed that she “respects” the Parizaad actor for being “brutally honest.”
