Captain Fahad buried with full military honour; CJCSC, COAS attend funeral prayers at Army Graveyard Rawalpindi

Funeral prayers for Captain Muhammad Fahad Khan, who embraced martyrdom in a terrorist bombing near in Balochistan, were offered at the Army Graveyard in Rawalpindi on Monday, the military said in a statement.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, and a large number of senior civil and military officers, soldiers, citizens, and relatives of the martyr attended the funeral prayers.

The statement further said that Captain Fahad was buried with full military honour.

On Sunday, the ISPR said that an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during an intelligence-based operation which had been underway in the Kahan area of Kohlu district since Saturday.

“Resultantly, Capt Fahad and four other brave sons of soil, Lance Naik Imtiaz, Sepoy Asghar, Sepoy Mehran and Sepoy Shamoon embraced Shahadat, laying [down] their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat of terrorism,” the ISPR said.

Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terrorist activities in some parts of the country. Last month, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called off a ceasefire brokered by the Afghan Taliban in May.

Official data showed that since August 2021, Pakistan recorded 420 terrorist attacks. In the last three months alone, the banned TTP claimed responsibility of 141 attacks.

A major review is currently underway to devise a new strategy to deal with the resurgence of TTP militants. Official sources believe that a military operation to stem the fresh tide of terrorism is on the cards.

A meeting of the National Security Committee is expected in the next couple of weeks to take major decisions.
