As 2022 comes to an end, so do many fairytales. We are rounding up the biggest celebrity splits of the year. From Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly to Aima Baig, Shahbaz Shigri, here’s a look at the couples whose love wasn’t meant to last a lifetime.

Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir

The first heartbreak of 2022 took a while to come to terms with. Rumours about lovebirds Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly parting ways after two years of marriage took the internet by storm. The couple, who tied the knot in 2020 during a destination wedding, had been together since 2017. The duo became an instant fan-favourite from the first time Mir and Aly shared onscreen in Yakeen Ka Safar.

While other couples had addressed their separations, Aly and Mir never issued a statement or spoke about it. The news of their divorce was confirmed by journalist Aamna Haider Isani in March of this year. Post their divorce, the duo hasn't fazed on the work front and has continued taking on Herculean projects; Mir with Netflix's Resident Evil and Aly with Jemima Goldsmith's international venture, What's Love Got To Do?

Recently, while speaking to Deadline while promoting her upcoming star-studded venture at the second edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, the Mom star spoke about marriage being a risk. When asked about her preference in marriage between arranged and love, Sajal chuckled nervously and responded, "Well, for me it's too early to be saying anything about arranged or love [marriages], but I just believe in love marriages; I just believe in love. And anyway, wedding/shaadi is a risk! Be it arranged or love; that's all I can say!"

Aima Baig and Shahbaz Shigri

Another split that made headlines was when Aima Baig announced that she and her fiancé, actor Shahbaz Shigri have parted ways after a year-long engagement. Taking to Instagram, the Baazi singer shared that the duo is 'doing good and fine.' "Yes, I will always respect this person for giving me a good time," Baig shared in a statement on social media. "Sometimes, sh*t happens for a reason. And to answer all your questions, yes, we have parted ways. But we are both doing good and fine, so don't worry."

The singer added, "I wanted to do it in the most respectful way and so I did. People can choose their ways of expressing their feelings, which define who they are from the inside. That's me telling the truth to anyone wondering if they are or they are not together. And the answer is, nope. I and Shahbaz are not together anymore." the Pyaar Hua Tha crooner concluded her statement with, "PS: No more 'feeling sorry texts' please! We are doing just fine." Baig and Shigri exchanged rings in an extravagant affair in 2021.

Feroze Khan and Aliza Sultan

The divorce fiasco of actor Feroze Khan and his wife of four years, Aliza Sultan, could possibly be termed the messiest split of the list. In September this year, the former couple put an end to the separation gossip by announcing divorce on social media. Sultan, in her statement, accused Khan of physical and psychological abuse. Sultan had alleged that she had to "endure infidelity, blackmail and degradation" by the Khaani actor.

"The welfare and well-being of my children have played a significant role in this decision. I do not want them to grow up in a toxic, unhealthy and violent household. I am afraid that their mental development and approach to life would be negatively impacted by exposure to a such hostile environment," Sultan shared on Instagram. Further elaborating, she shared, "No kid should ever have to grow up feeling violence to be a normal part of relationships. I would rather teach them that no wounds are too deep to be healed, no scars too shameful to be concealed at the cost of one's safety."

While Khan had then decided to not address the abuse allegations, he later issued a statement 'vehemently denying' accusations levelled by his former wife against him. "I, Feroze Khan, vehemently deny any and all baseless, malicious and untruthful allegations which have been levelled against me and are circulating on the social media rumour mill," he shared in an Instagram story. "These allegations have no basis in truth or reality." He added that he will be pursuing the matter legally and shared, "I fully intend to institute legal proceedings against the perpetrators of these actions and I have instructed my legal team accordingly."

Imran Ashraf and Kiran Ashfaque

The next month, actor Imran Ashraf and his wife of four years, Kiran, announced separation. The actor and Kiran took to social media in September and shared news of their parting ways. “With a heavy heart, we announce that we have mutually and respectfully decided to part ways,” their Instagram post read. “The primary concern for both of us will remain our son, Roham for whom we will continue to be the best possible parents.” The joint statement further read, “We request the fans, well-wishers and the media to support us during this difficult time and give us the privacy we need to move on. Love and respect for all, Kiran and Imran."

The duo, which tied the knot in 2018, is parents to a son, Roham. The rumours regarding the couple's divorce have been rife for a while now. The speculations began when Ashfaque changed her name on Instagram from Kiran Imran Ashraf to Kiran Ashfaque Hussein Dar. She later went on to delete all the pictures with Ranjha Ranjha Kardi actor as well.

Sana Fakhar and Fakhar Jaffri

A week later, veteran star Sana Fakhar announced separation from her husband of 14 years, Fakhar Jaffri. The actor shared the news on social media. Taking to Instagram, the 43-year-old star wrote, "Breakups hurt. But sometimes breaking a relationship is so mandatory to save yourself to break so much."

She concluded, "With all the respect, me and Fakhar after several years of marriage through highs and lows decided to take a separate path. It’s heartbreaking but I strongly believe that God has better plans for both of us. All the best Fakhar Jaffri. The couple had tied the knot in 2008 and are parents to two sons.
