Govt names Mansoor Awan as new AGP

ISLAMABAD:

The government has decided to appoint Mansoor Usman Awan as new Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), sources revealed to The Express Tribune.

It is learnt that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given approval to the name of Awan as new AGP.

Awan is a Lahore-based lawyer. He was the counsel of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in several matters including implementation of Article 95, presidential reference on interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution.

Earlier, incumbent AGP Ashtar Ausaf tendered his resignation because of illness but he was asked to continue the appointment of his successor.

Awan has cordial relationship with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar as well. He will likely to be youngest AGP in recent past.
