Muggers kill youth in front of father
One of suspects lynched by enraged mob had come out of jail on bail todayA young man was shot dead in front of his father while resisting muggers in Korangi on Sunday as police are helpless to contain increasing street crimes in the metropolitan city. The shooting of 22-year-old angered local residents who caught hold of one of the muggers and beat him to death.
According to police, armed muggers were snatching valuables from Azhar, 22, and his father Masood, 50, at a market in Awami Colony, Korangi No. 5, when Azhar put up resistance. The robbers opened fire, killing Azhar on the spot and injuring his father and a passer-by, named Osama, 25.
Chippa volunteers shifted the casualties to Jinnah Hospital, while local residents overpowered one of the robbers and beat him to death. Jamal Laghari, SHO Awami Colony police station, said that weapons and a motorcycle have been recovered from the possession of the robber who was lynched by the mob.
He added that they have started a search for other accomplices of the dead robber. The body of the dead mugger was also shifted to Jinnah Hospital where police said they were trying to identify him with the help of biometrics.
Awami Colony police station SHO Inspector Jamal Laghari told The Express Tribune that robber killed in the incident was identified late in the night as Umar Khan. The police also obtained his criminal record, according to which the accused has been arrested before.
A few days ago he was arrested in Landhi police station in a case of illegal weapons and was out on bail today. The police started raids for arrest of his other partner.
On a question, SHO said that the funeral of Azhar who died in the incident could not be done till Sunday evening, some of Azhar's relatives is staying outside the city and their arrival is being awaited. The police have registered a case on the complaint of Azhar's father. The police is investigating the incident further. It I should be noted that the CCTV footage of the incident was also made public in which the citizens can be easily seen chasing the robbers.
Meanwhile, robbers shot and seriously injured 25-year-old Anar Gul for resisting a robbery attempt near New Sabzi Mandi, on Northern Bridge of Superhighway Industrial Area. Edhi volunteers shifted him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical assistance.
In yet another incident, 27-year-old Shafiq was shot in the leg by muggers during a robbery in Dar Mohammad Market, in Shah Latif, Razzaqabad. He was taken to Jinnah Hospital for treatment.
Another man was shot and injured during robbery on Noorjahan road, in North Nazimabad. The injured person was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was identified as Sharif Khan, 50.
Separately, two armed robbers robbed more than a dozen guests of their valuables, including cash and mobile phones, at a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 13, and escaped on a motorcycle parked outside.
Local police reached the spot and obtained video footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the hall and started investigation.
