Actor Feroze Khan may not have appreciated actor-activist Shaniera Akram’s comment on his lack of regard for his child’s safety while driving, but her criticism has opened up conversations on the importance of wearing seatbelts and responsible driving.
Ayesha Omar and Fia Khan also shared their two cents on the matter. Agreeing with Shaniera’s comment, the duo recalled the road accidents they have experienced in the past and lauded her for consistently rallying for road safety.
On Saturday, Ayesha took to her Instagram stories and thanked Shaniera for raising her voice on the matter. “Seven years ago, today, I was in a terrible car accident and I broke four bones in my upper body, sitting in the backseat (not the front seat even). Had I been wearing a seat belt, I wouldn’t have suffered any injuries I was told,” she wrote.
She further added that after her harrowing experience, she can’t even imagine sitting in a car without a seatbelt and always encourages others around her to wear it as well. “I cannot stress the importance of seat belts enough. For yourselves and your children and every human riding in a car, it saves lives,” Ayesha said.
Following that, Fia also shared that she was in an accident in Lahore, nine years ago on women’s day with her daughter. They got out of the accident safely, without bearing any major injuries because her family was accustomed to wearing seatbelts.
“Cut short, the car overturned several times and we landed upside down on the opposite side of the road. If we wouldn’t have been wearing the belts, trust me! we would have been out of the windscreen and maybe down the bridge,” wrote Fia. She also sent love to Ayesha and Shaniera for speaking up.
Fia and Ayesha’s stories came a day after Feroze defended himself with a video of Khabib Nurmagomedov, a popular Russian MMA fighter wrestling with a brown bear. Referring to the fighter, Feroze said, "World's number one fighter! Glad he didn't listen to you [Shaniera] or your father while being trained or would've wasted his talent."
Feroze also noted how he's much more knowledgeable about cars and safety rules than Shaniera and shrugged off her concerns. The Khaani star also addressed his followers to stop believing anyone on the internet. He said, "Don't listen to just any Tom, Dick, and Neira [Shaniera]. You all know what I mean. Focus means focus."
On Friday, Shaniera posted a screenshot of him driving with a kid in his lap to reiterate how such an act can be fatal for kids. “I am sick to my stomach at the stupidity of some people!” lashed out Shaniera. “Why don’t they get it through their thick heads that this is dangerous?! You’re putting your own child’s life in jeopardy,” she added.
