First facial prosthetic procedure done at JSMU

Team of doctors replaces patient's eye, face, nose and mouth with artificial ones

KARACHI:

The Department of Prosthodontics, Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences (SIOHS) of the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has successfully completed the first case of facial prosthetics. The Head of the Prosthodontics department Professor Mehmood Hussain was the leader of the eight-member team comprising the senior registrar Dr Mehwish Khan, seven house job officers and supporting staff.

The team replaced eye, face, nose and internal parts of mouth with artificial organs of a patient from the Umar Kot district. Western Laboratory presented its technical services during the operation. The JSMU Vic Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon congratulated SIOHS and the team of Prosthodontics Dept for achieving a milestone.
