ISLAMABAD:

The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Civil Administration of the Hazara Division and United Kohistan Jirga, comprising three districts namely Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan and Kolai Palas Kohistan, reached an agreement on Monday.

It is aimed at implementing a number of development schemes of Wapda in the three districts for socio-economic uplift of the local populace. The agreement paves the way for a smooth execution and completion of the long-delayed 132-kilovolt transmission line from Duber Hydel Power Station to Dasu, direly needed for stable electricity supply during the peak construction period for the Dasu Hydropower Project.

In lieu of the development schemes, locals of the three districts will not create hurdles in the way of building the transmission line and ensure its smooth laying.

Wapda will implement scores of schemes as confidence building measures under its Corporate Social Responsibility with support of the civil administration.

It will construct three hydel power stations of at least three megawatts including the transmission and distribution line in the three districts of Kohistan. It will also construct a high school and a vocational training centre in the three districts, besides reconstructing a high school in Seo, Upper Kohistan.
