Man held for rape, murder of niece

KARACHI:

Police on Wednesday arrested the main suspect of the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Jacob Lines on Tuesday.

The suspect, Mujeebullah Nadeem, is the paternal uncle of the victim, Esha, 12, who was found dead in her house.

The incident was initially reported as suicide, but the medical examination revealed that the girl was raped before being killed.

The Brigade police registered a case under section 302 and 376 on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday on the complaint of Yaseen, the victim's father.

Complainant Yaseen told the police that when he returned home from work at around 11:30pm he found the lock of the house open and his younger brother Mujeebullah was present there.

"Mujeebullah told me that Esha had committed suicide and her body was lying in the room on the first floor of the house," victim's father said.

He said, he rushed to the room and found little Esha lying on the floor. He rushed the girl to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. In the meantime, Mujeebullah escaped from the scene.

The SSP East Abdul Raheem Shirazi said that arrested accused is a drug addict. Police are investigating further.
