RAWALPINDI:

For the first time after the Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal, the Rawalpindi commissioner has approved the inclusion of 558 public welfare projects under the Annual Development Programme 2022-23.

Sources said the commissioners and deputy commissioners who were appointed after the Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal did not sanction any public welfare scheme to avoid any kind of corruption.

According to the spokesperson of the district administration, a review meeting of annual development schemes was held under the chair of Commissioner Saqib Manan. He directed that the deputy commissioners concerned to monitor the progress of different development schemes and ensure quality construction work in their respective districts.

He further said that out of a total of 558 development schemes across the division, 403 projects were ongoing while 155 new projects were also launched for which funds amounting to Rs24,156 million had been released. Most of the schemes are related to schools, health departments, WASA, public health, highways and local government.

The commissioner said the welfare of the people was the priority of the incumbent government and directed the authorities that no compromise should be made in the quality of construction work and regular monitoring should be ensured.

The officers concerned were directed to visit project sites on regular basis and update the Commissioner's Office about the progress of the schemes, directing them to swiftly complete construction work on ongoing development projects of the Rawalpindi division.

In the meeting, a detailed review of the progress on the development schemes was conducted.
