Federal govt owes Rs7.5b for patients’ treatment

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for payment of the health insurance card scheme’s dues in the province.

The chief minister was informed during a meeting that the federal government had to pay Rs7.5 billion for the health card programme in the province.

The CM said Punjab had paid all its health card dues but the federal government has not contributed even a rupee for the public welfare project in recent months.

He said Punjab government was also providing facilities for free treatment of patients in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad through the health card.

CM Pervaiz Elahi said the health card was a flagship programme launched by PTI chairman Imran Khan and all citizens of Punjab could avail the facility whenever and wherever they wanted.

The health coverage is being provided to the whole population of Punjab without discrimination, he added. As many as821 hospitals are providing free treatment in Punjab under the scheme.
