EU’s call on Palestine

The European Union has stated the obvious in its considerate opinion on the plight of Palestinians. The 27-member bloc has called for an independent inquiry into the constant killing and maiming of the stateless souls in the heart of the Middle East at the hands of Zionist forces. The EU’s own observations are worth-studying as it says 140 Palestinians were killed in the year 2022, and it was one of the deadliest years since 2006. This may be just the tip of the iceberg as Israeli forces are in a state-laden convention to exterminate Palestinians in the occupied territories. The recent increasing level of violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is an immediate point of concern.

The EU’s Twitter handle went on to illustrate that Israeli forces appear to use excessive lethal force. Last week saw more than 10 Palestinians shot dead by trigger-happy forces. This has been a routine all these days, and this is so owing to lack of mechanism to hold Israel accountable for human rights excesses. Gaza is a testimony to mass violations where more than 2 million of its populace is under siege. It is the biggest landlocked prison in the world, and has witnessed the worst airstrikes and sanctions for decades.

Such a horrible scenario drives the indispensable necessity of finding a permanent solution to the territorial dispute of Palestine. The world community especially the democracy-preaching West has failed in the Middle East, and is directly responsible for Israel’s custodial terror. It is futile to keep on harping over the tune that the dispute must come to an end, as it threatens peace and security of the world at large. But the canons of real politick have always had a different prism to look at the issue, which has been segregated and classified as a Muslim revulsion and branded as a terror movement. This is unbecoming of expressive values of egalitarianism and Westphalian statehood principles. The EU can turn a new leaf by leading from the front in dispensing justice.
