Give the youth an outlet: Ali Zafar on bringing football to Pakistan

Journalist Hasan Kazmi’s post on Fifa World Cup 2022 hit home for Ali

While Pakistan boasts of tens and thousands of God-gifted individuals, it is unfortunate that most of them do not have an outlet to exhibit their talent due to financial constraints or a lack of opportunities. Actor-singer Ali Zafar feels no different.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Hasan Kazmi penned a post in reference to the ongoing Fifa World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, he listed down the world’s most populated countries. Kazmi wrote,
“World’s most Populas countries: 1. China; 2. India; 3. United States; 4. Indonesia; 5. Pakistan.” He added, “Four out of five of these countries are not playing the Fifa World Cup.”

The post hit home for Zafar, who was quick to respond to Kazmi. “Point to ponder,” the Channo singer responded. “#FifaWorldCup bring football to Pakistan. Give the kids and youth an outlet. Cricket se aagay jahaan aur bhee hain (There is a world beyond cricket too). We must nurture talent in all fields and get rid of the old and regressive system where one person is allowed to decide for all.”

Zafar continued, “Recently a patron of Pakistan’s women volleyball team shared her challenges to get the girls to play and compete just because of the ego of a few in charge. We must change this and give these girls and boys the power to decide their destiny.”
