Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s Coke Studio track Pasoori has now become one of those classics that is sure to give you the feels whenever you play it. Originally released in February 2022, the song continues to garner attention and popularity even nine months later – and the groovy Punjabi magic has roped in the famous Indian singer, the king of romantic ballads, Arijit Singh as well!
A viral video on Twitter sees Singh belt out Pasoori at a live concert in Mumbai with head-over-heel fans chanting the lyrics out loud. Several other concert-goers shared videos from the same “surreal” night with their highlight being the Kesariya singer covering the famous Coke Studio number. Videos show fans moving to the Coke Studio track and going gaga over Singh’s cover.

However, once the videos went viral, divided the internet with mixed reviews. While most fans adored the “cross-border love,” others called it the “worst cover” ever.

“Arijit Singh covering Pasoori at his concert is literally everything,” wrote a user. “I’m tearing up because this is exactly the kind of cross-border love, respect and adoration that I love to see.”

Another fan said they didn’t know they needed Singh’s cover until they heard it.

A fan even went on to act like what Sethi would say if he heard Singh’s version. “And Ali Sethi, in a parallel universe, said, ‘I wish I was there at his concert when he sang my song Pasoori. It's nothing but an achievement for me that The Arijit Singh sang my song,” he wrote.

However, some fans weren’t impressed by the mellow pitch of Singh’s vocals and thought they didn’t do justice to the groovy song. “Arijit Singh's cover of Pasoori, was possibly the worst cover in the history of covers, should have just muted his mic and that still would be a lot more bearable,” read a tweet.
A fan said the song only belongs to Sethi and even the Tum Hi Ho crooner couldn’t do justice to it. “I saw a video on Instagram where Arijit Singh was singing Pasoori and oh my God! IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER,” wrote a tweep.

Pasoori is only made for Ali Sethi's voice and no, you can't convince me otherwise.
“Pasoori is only made for Ali Sethi's voice and no, you can't convince me otherwise.” Another one said they love the Naina singer but he shouldn’t have messed with Pasoori like that.
There have been several instances where Singh has spoken in favour of Pakistani artists on his many gigs. The recent rendition serves as yet another testimony of Singh's admiration of his counterparts on this side of the border.
