Gujranwala police tighten the noose around suspects

500 suspected members of 180 gangs arrested in crackdown

GUJRANWALA:

Gujranwala police in different crackdowns in the district in the past three months arrested alleged criminals, including fugitives, who had been allegedly involved in robberies and other serious crimes.

During the crackdowns 500 alleged members of 180 gangs wanted in serious cases besides 1,881 alleged criminals of category A/B were arrested.

This was stated during a briefing given to the media at the police headquarters in Gujranwala on Tuesday.

Police during the operations recovered more than Rs11 million in cash, 141 tolas of gold jewelry, two tolas of silver, 376 motorcycles, seven cars, 19 other vehicles, 124 mobile phones and 35 cattle from the possession of the suspects.

The total value of the recovered goods is said to be more than Rs29 million.

Police also recovered 12 Kalashnikovs, 27 rifles, six shotguns, 326 pistols, 467 kilograms of hashish, seven kilograms of heroin and 35 liters of alcohol from the possession of the suspects.

Fifty-three accused allegedly involved in 39 murders and blind murders and four accused involved in four cases of double-murder were arrested.

They also arrested 18 people allegedly involved in 14 rape cases while 23 accused involved in 19 cases of child abuse were also arrested.

People paid tribute to the local police for taking massive action against the anti-social elements.

In view of the orders by the City Police Officer, Umar Salamat, different police teams consisting of SPs and SDPOs had been formed to conduct a special operation against the criminal elements across the district.

The teams were led by SSP (Operations) Nasir Siyal under the supervision of SSP (Investigation) Imran Razak.

The police teams performed magnificently in the past three months, taking into account various aspects of investigation with professional skills and scientific methods.

The Sadar Division Police under the supervision of SP Waqar Azim, the Civil Line Division Police under the leadership of SP Rizwan Tariq and the CIA police led by DSP Nawaz Gul showed exemplary professionalism and took effective action against the criminal elements to make the crackdown in Gujranwala a success.
