Suspected cop killer flees abroad
The accused Khurram Nisar who allegedly shot dead a Shaheen Force constable Abdur Rehman, reportedly fled from Pakistan. According to immigration authorities, he used Swedish passport to take a flight to Istanbul on Turkish Airline early Tuesday morning. Pakistani authorities had blocked his Pakistani passport to refrain him from fleeing but he used his second passport to manage his escape.
It may be recalled that Khurram Nisar shot a Shaheen policeman dead on Monday night in Karachi’s DHA locality after the two engaged in a heated argument.
The suspect, reportedly the son of a former deputy commissioner, opened fire on the police officer after cop tried to foil an attempt to abduct a woman, said police.
The police have traced the car of the accused with the help of CCTV footage, and conducted raids to arrest him. But, by the time police initiated investigation, the accused left the country.
SSP South Asad Raza said that Shaheen Force officers, while patrolling in the area, signalled a vehicle to stop after they heard girl screaming in the car. As soon as the the cops succeeded in stopping the car, the girl got out of the vehicle and ran away. The cop Abdul Rehman got into the car and asked the driver to go to the police station. The incident took place at around 11:45pm near Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar.
In the CCTV footage shows the bitter exchange between the accused and the police officer during which the accused can be seen taking out his weapon after disembarking from a black vehicle. The policeman can be heard telling the suspect to go to the police station. A bitter exchange follows after which the accused opens fire on the constable.
According to the post-mortem report, the officer was hit by a single bullet fired from a 9mm pistol from a close range on the head which proved fatal.
The deceased police officer, Abdur Rehman, was a resident of the City Railway Colony and the third among four brothers. His marriage was scheduled to be held in December this year.
With the help of the CCTV footage, the car number and suspect have been identified. Suspect’s address was also retrieved through the car registration.
According to DIG South, the accused, Khurram Nisar, is a Swedish citizen and arrived Karachi only three weeks ago. His father, Nisar Ahmad is a former deputy commissioner.
