Scores of transgender community members, hailing from different parts of Sindh, organized the first-ever 'Moorat March' at the Frere Hall amid tight security on Sunday.
The charged crowd, carrying banners and placards, assembled at one of the oldest parks of the city, located in the Red Zone, chanted slogans in favour of their demands which included equality, due rights, protection and respect in society.
The participants after speeches and performances at the stage held a short solidarity march around the Frere Hall. Heavy contingent of police was deployed at the venue while only participants or families were allowed to enter the premises to avoid any untoward incident.
"We are also humans like men or women," commented a trans-person hailing from city's oldest area, Ranchor Line. "But we face hatred since our birth. We only demand our due rights. Nothing else."
Speaking to the participants, Sindh Minister for Women Development Shehla Raza assured the community members that her party, Pakistan People's Party, would support them.
