From Janhvi Kapoor to Dua Lipa: Stars dare to bare in safety pin trend

While their ensembles incorporated the fad in one way or another, the pins were styled differently on each outfits

KARACHI:

Safety pins are popularly used to fasten pieces of fabric or clothing together but it was fashion icon Elizabeth Hurley who first made them famous as a fashion statement. It was then spotted on the likes of Miranda Kerr and Nicole Scherzinger back in the day and has now returned with a bang! From dresses to miniskirts and even cardigans and crop tops, celebrities from Hollywood as well as Bollywood have been accessorising their outfits with safety pins and we are all for it.

The latest divas to have caught our attention include Dua Lipa, Janhvi Kapoor and Bella Hadid. While their ensembles incorporated the now-trending fad in one way or another, the pins were styled differently on each of their outfits, standing out in their own special way.

The pop star was a sight for sore eyes as she strutted down the runway at Milan Fashion Week in a black Versace dress. The look was borrowed heavily from the ensemble created for Hurley – and one that catapulted her as well as the luxury brand to stardom – for the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere in 1994. Multi-coloured safety pins added spunk to the all-black outfit that featured a long sleeves cut-out blazer and bodycon skirt. Black platform heels, poker-straight hair and minimal accessories completed her look.

The Bollywood beauty has fast become one of the most sought-after names in the Indian film industry, courtesy her style statements and acting prowess. Always experimenting with her looks, Janhvi looked breathtaking in a cobalt blue gown. The glamorous number featured a thigh-high slit and an asymmetrical cut-out pattern around the neck that was adorned with two oversized gold safety pins. The figure-hugging dress accentuated her curves as it draped to the floor. Straight hair, high gold heels and bold makeup added to the finishing touches.

She walked the runway at a Jean Paul Gaultier show earlier this week and walked out in a casual yet chic outfit. Rocking the denim-on-denim trend, the supermodel was clad in a crop top that featured a handful of pins crisscrossed at its front. She threw on a loose denim blazer and opted for camel-coloured trousers and ankle-high black boots. Her denim, duffel-style handbag and vibrant bucket hat provided for the perfect accessories.
