Woman, six-year-old son killed in shooting

The unknown assailant fled the scene after carrying out the shooting, says police spokesperson

A woman and her six-year-old son were killed while another person was injured in a shooting incident in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

According to the police spokesman, the incident took place in Data Bhat neighborhood within the jurisdiction of the Jatli police station.

He said police and rescue teams arrived at the spot after receiving a report of the incident and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. The bodies were shifted to the Holy Family Hospital for medico-legal formalities, he said.

He also stated that the deceased were identified as 40-year-old Shamila Bibi and her son Zulqarnain while the injured was identified as Shahbaz.

Meanwhile, the unknown assailant fled the scene after carrying out the shooting, he added.

The spokesman further said that Central Police Office (CPO) Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari has taken a notice of the incident and ordered the Saddar SP to arrest the accused at the earliest.

Moreover, the initial investigation could not shed light on the motive behind the murders, he said, adding that evidence was being gathered from the crime scene.
