Fans call Dua Lipa hypocrite for performing in France but not Qatar for World Cup
English singer Dua Lipa has recently debunked rumours of performing at the opening ceremony of FIFA World Cup 2022, to be held in Qatar. There has been news that the New Rules singer will be performing in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
On Sunday, the singer took to her Instagram stories to clear the air regarding it. She said, “I will not be performing, nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform.” Lipa added, “I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”
The Grammy-winning artist said she'll be cheering for England from afar.
'A hypocrite'
Soon, her story went viral and people listed down the times she visited countries that suppress basic human rights and labelled her a hypocrite. A social media user said that Lipa performed in France where they are openly Islamophobic and banned the hijab which is against fundamental human rights and in Dubai which follows the same rules and regulations as Qatar.
Another person said, “Dua Lipa visited India in 2019, the year that India striped Kashmir of its semi-autonomous status, sending it into the longest communications blackout, where thousands of Kashmiri Muslims were killed, arrested, and tortured by Indian occupational forces.”
Another added, "The queen of 'human rights' dua lipa herself performed and visited France twice or more this year alone although its an Islamophobic country but it's fine because Muslims (24.9% of the population) aren’t humans and they have no rights."
One more added, "Dua Lipa also works with Puma which is an openly Zionist company. Plus, she has performed in China ignoring the plight of uyghur muslims and Dubai which has the same rules as Qatar. But suddenly Qatar is where she draws the line?"
One shared, "Human rights, you said? Then give us an explanation of why you performed in France then! That country banned wearing Hijab which is also a human right! That country has been always Islamophobic. Where is the human rights thing?"
Another user commented, "The double standard is unbelievable. No nation is perfect and I’m so disappointed in Dua Lipa. Have you ever spoken against Israel’s occupation or do human rights only concern you because this is not a European/Western country?"
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar has raised an unprecedented number of questions among fans over issues ranging from whether they will be able to drink alcohol, hold hands with a partner or even just get into the Islamic Gulf state.
