City police chief AIG Javed Alam Odho said on Friday that crime rate has come down significantly.
Referring to a shootout in North Nazimabad on Thursday, he said Yasin Bhayo, Imdad Sipro and Rameez were among those killed during the police encounter in Gulberg.
More than 50 cases including car lifting and robberies were registered against the accused. The accused had robbed a bungalow in Hyderi a day ago.
Odho said it would not be wrong to call Bhayo the top car thief Karachi.
About the Bahadurabad incident, the Additional IG said that the police have arrested the woman and her son who left the child's tortured body at a private hospital and escaped. The suspects had killed the child by beating him severely on the charge of stealing money.
Moreover, Odho said that the police have arrested 34 accused in Machhar Colony incident with the help of CCTV footages and intelligence information. It should be remembered that two employees of a phone company were beaten to death by Machar Colony residents on the suspicion of being robbers or kidnappers.
Apart from this, Korangi Industrial Area police have arrested five members of a gang of motorcycle lifters. The suspected have been identified as Javed, Raja, Feroz Ali, Ali Gul and Imam Deen. The police have recovered several stolen motorcycles from their possession.
Meanwhile, the accused involved in the robbery of Rs25 million in a bungalow in the Derakhshan area of DHA has also been arrested.
The Karachi police chief also presented some figures regarding the performance of the year. He said that in the year 2022, around 107 suspects were killed and 870 were injured during 736 encounters. During this period, 7,646 street criminals were arrested. So far, 18 Kalashnikovs, 5,654 pistols, 58 rifles and 239 shotguns have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
He said that 7,383 drug peddlers were arrested and more than 85kgs of heroin, more than 8,486kgs of hashish, 65kgs of ice, and more than 1,000kgs of opium were recovered from them.
