Officials summoned over closure of roads

Citizens and traders were facing the problem and basic human rights were also infringed upon

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned officials of the interior ministry on November 14 on a petition of traders against the closure of roads in the federal capital due to PTI protests and sit-ins.

IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq heard the petition of traders on Friday. The petitioners’ counsel Sardar Umar Aslam and Deputy Attorney General Azmat Basheer appeared before the court.

The petitioners’ counsel said that protests continued to be held after the change of government in April and due to this, citizens and traders were facing the problem and basic human rights were also infringed upon.

The petitioners’ counsel also sought to issue directives to the PTI to hold protest rallies and sit-ins outside Islamabad. The court issued notices and summoned the interior ministry officials on November 14 with a reply.

Meanwhile, the IHC has annulled the arrest of PTI leader Zahid Akbar under 3MPO and ordered his immediate release from detention.

IHC judge Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani heard the petition on behalf of Hassam against the arrest of his father and keeping him in a sub-jail. The prosecutor told the court that SHO Industrial Area police station has reported that the accused had resorted to vandalism. The court inquired whether any such incident had happened in Islamabad. The prosecutor replied that no such incident has happened yet.
