KARACHI:

The city police chief has said that a network of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) is being established across the metropolitan city in an effort to eradicate street crimes just like incidents of targeted killings have been contained. He called upon everyone to play their role in this crusade against street crime.

AIG Javeed Alam Odho said this while speaking at the inauguration of a command and control center established under community policing in Nazimabad police station on Friday. The center will monitor Nazimabad with the help of 100 CCTV cameras installed in the area. The command and control center has been set up with the cooperation of former CPLC chief Murad Sohni and other members.

AIG Odho said that earlier targeted killing, terrorism, and kidnapping for ransom were the major crimes in Karachi, but they have been brought under control. "In the same way, street crime will also be eliminated now," he added.
