PTI Chairman Imran Khan survived an 'assassination attempt' Thursday on the 7th day of the party's 'Haqeeqi Long March' and is currently undergoing medical treatment in Shaukat Khanum Hospital Lahore.

Many among celebrities took to social media and expressed shock and anger over the incident. "Shocked beyond words," Adnan Siddiqui shared on Twitter. "May Allah keep Imran Khan and others safe. Praying for speedy recovery of everyone who’s got injured in this violence."

Armeena Rana Khan tweeted, "I am shell-shocked! Did these guys seriously think that they can get away with this in today’s world? I wish him and all those injured a speedy recovery."

Malala, too, expressed her thoughts. "Attacks on leaders of any political belief or party are always wrong. And violence is never an acceptable protest," the youngest Nobel Prize Laureate tweeted. "Wishing Imran Khan a full recovery."

Nadia Jamil, too, commented, "Shaken to the core." She added, "We have as a nation, lived through so much violence. Seen our leaders hung, shot, and blown up by bombs. Witnessed our people, children being blown apart, torn apart. We have deep flaws but we have an even deeper beauty in our soul, our narrative. I will not lose hope for us."

She further shared, "The attack on the life of Imran Khan is an ugly reminder of the short-sighted, reactionary madness in our politics. Thank Allah Imran Khan is safe. Uff Shukar Alhamdolillah and thank Allah we are a nation that feels as strongly as we do. Not entirely desensitised zombies… yet."

Jamil concluded, "While we feel deep love, passion and hope, I also witness intense anger and hatred. This sea of hatred will drown us all. It's quicksand, it grabs a hold of a person and takes em down. Loud, toxic spreading, hatred. I feel it online, through timelines, tweets, on streets, breeding violent brutality!"

Rohail Hyatt lamented, "Classic assassination attempt apparently. Multiple shooters, firework diversion and coverup story. This is an open act of war against Imran Khan. To the powers that be, call elections NOW and stop this madness before this country goes up in flames!"

Osman Khalid Butt remarked, "Prayers with Imran Khan, Faisal Javed and the entire PTI convoy. Had the worst happened (Nauzubillah), this country would have gone into a state of anarchy." The actor added, "This bears repeating: history has taught us nothing."

Ali Zafar tweeted, "I remember the dark, depressing days and time after the assassination of Shaheed mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. God forbid had anything fatal happened to Imran Khan, no one can imagine what would erupt. If this is his spirit after being shot three, four times in the leg we do need to think beyond our thoughts."

Zimbabwean scholar Mufti Menk shared, "Shocked and saddened by news that Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan was injured following a shooting incident. I wish him well and a speedy recovery. Violence in all forms is totally wrong and unacceptable, no matter what our differences may be."

Arsalan Naseer tweeted, "Assassination attempt on Imran Khan! Heard he is safe but injured. May Allah keep him, his companions and the protestors safe."

Haroon Shahid shared, "Khan Saab is safe! Allah ka shukar."

In another tweet, he added, "I'm appalled at how some of us function. On shoot currently, barring a few, I can hear fellow actors giggling and smiles all over. One even had the audacity to ask me "Kya hua, why are you down?!". The actually concerned ones are mostly supported staff from the crew. Bayhiss log!!"

Hira Tareen, while sharing the footage of the incident, wrote, "Very sad to hear about the firing incident which resulted in Imran Khan being shot and others being injured as well. Prayers for his recovery and hope there aren’t any casualties. Hope we get to the bottom of who is responsible!"

PR mogul Frieha Altaf penned, "Imran khan shot! In an attempt on his life In the leg during the long march. Was so afraid this might happen. Duas for his recovery."

Hadiqa Kiani added, "Praying for Imran Khan. May Allah guide him to a quick recovery, protect him and protect our Pakistan."

Maya Ali hoped history won't repeat itself and added, "How low can you fall yet? If there are people who are still not convicted for Benazir Bhutto's assassination, then what do you expect? Now history is repeating itself." The Mann Mayal actor added, "For the sake of Allah, put an end to all of this. Keep praying hard for my Kaptaan, leaders and others who got injured in this horrendous act."

Sana Javed and Dananeer Mobeen condemned the incident on Instagram as well. They further wished Khan a speedy recovery.

Imran's container came under attack as it moved through Punjab's Wazirabad town. He sustained a bullet wound to the leg while other party leaders and supporters were also injured in the attack - reportedly carried out by a lone gunman.

Former health minister Dr Faisal Sultan, talking to the media, said medical examination has revealed bullet fragments and a slight chip in the tibia due to the bullet injury. He added Imran was coherent and was given pain medication during the emergency examination.
