IHC disposes recovery plea after another missing person 'returns home'

Missing individual's brother had filed plea for his recovery and 'illegal detention' by LEAs

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of a recovery plea for a missing person after he 'returned home' while his case was underway at the high court.

Justice Amir Farooq of the IHC heard the plea regarding missing person Jameel Mehmood’s recovery and his alleged illegal detention by law enforcement agencies. The petition was filed by Jameel’s brother, Shehzad Mehmood.

During the hearing, the petitioner's lawyer informed the court that Mehmood had returned home, therefore rendering the petition infructuous.

Subsequently, the IHC disposed of the application.

Last month, another missing person, Munib Akram, returned home during the hearing of his case in the IHC and was presented by the police before the high court.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah presided over the hearing on a petition filed by Munib's father, Mohammad Akram.

When asked by the chief justice regarding his whereabouts, Munib said that he was asleep at home on August 19, 2022, when he was forcefully called to the door by unknown individuals clad in shalwar kameez.

He added the men then asked him for his laptop password and told him "never to use" social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.

The victim further stated that he was "scared" and was eventually dropped off in the Kallar Kahar area after being held captive for five or six hours. He then claimed that he stayed at a friend's village for around 40 days and did not inform his family of his situation out of "fear"
