After a successful run of two seasons and a third currently on its way, Netflix has announced a fourth run for The Witcher, with an added twist: Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as the new Geralt of Rivia.
The news, however, is not being well-received. Since the announcement, many Witcher and in particular, Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia fans have been protesting against the decision on social media.
Some have expressed their “disappointment,” while others are “shocked” to say the least. A user tweeted, “I would rather have heard that The Witcher was being cancelled than having Hemsworth as the new Geralt.”
i would’ve rather heard that the witcher was cancelled than having LIAM hemsworth as the new geralt :/

Another called the change “a big downgrade.” They wrote, "Hemsworth as the new Witcher? I still can't believe this is real. What a big downgrade and disappointment.”

Other fans bluntly rejected this transition and urged the show's directors to retract the statement, while more bid farewell to the series, promising to never watch it again. “Hemsworth as the new Witcher? No, thank you let's have henry back!” One more commented, “Time to say goodbye to him and the series," another said.

Some fans utilised humour to mask their dismay, as one shared a joke about how “nobody here is going to care” for Hemsworth, while another shared an edited picture of The Hunger Games actor as Geralt.

In contrast, one user shared they don’t doubt the Killerman actor's “ability to portray Geralt of Rivia.” They further condemned the “undeserving hate” Hemsworth was suddenly receiving. “And I feel sorry for him getting all the undeserved hate now.”
Even they, however, criticised the show's creators, by pointing out the lack of good decision-making from the get-go. “Cavill leaving The Witcher is a big red flag regarding the decisions made for the show.”
See... I don't doubt Liam Hemsworth's ability to portray Geralt of Rivia. And I feel sorry for him getting all the totally undeserved hate now.

But Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher is a big red flag regarding the decisions made for the show.
Netflix's The Witcher is a fantasy drama developed by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It revolves around a mystical land where humans are monsters and a soldier's biggest nightmare. Amongst others, the show stars Anya Chalotra, Yennefer, and Freya Allan.
Netflix is preparing to release the show's third season in the middle of 2023. A fourth season will follow, with Hemsworth taking over for Cavill as Geralt. However, since the news of the new cast did not fare well with fans and more continue to voice their displeasure online, the future of the show remains on a rocky edge.
