Though the temperatures have considerably dropped in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, there was no let-up in dengue virus cases as 148 new cases were reported in the twin cities on Friday.
A total of 88 new dengue cases were reported in the federal capital during the last 24 hours. According to Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia, the number of confirmed dengue patients has reached 4,640 so far this season.
He said that during the last 24 hours, 51 cases were reported in rural areas with a total of 2,688 cases and 37 cases in urban areas with a total of 1,982 cases.
Meanwhile, 60 more dengue virus cases surfaced in Rawalpindi during the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of patients to 4,236 in the district.
Health authorities said that currently, 55 patients were receiving treatment at city hospitals. So far, five people have lost their lives to the dengue virus in the district, they said.
According to the data obtained from the health department, of the admitted 55 patients, 35 were being treated at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 12 at the District Headquarters Hospital and eight at the Holy Family Hospital.
According to statistics from government hospitals, five individuals have died while battling the dengue virus in the Rawalpindi district.
